Mickey Gall, now a proud father, represented New Jersey against New York’s Ramiz Brahimaj in welterweight action at UFC 309.
Having lost three straight, and at 1-4 in his last five, Gall was badly in need of a win at Madison Square Garden in New York.
A number of early skirmishes in the preliminary card fight seemed to favor Brahimaj. Gall finally connected with a jab about 90 seconds in, and followed up with a right hand that got Ramiz Brahimaj’s attention. A bit of dirty boxing in the clinch came next, but Brahimaj slipped when firing a knee. He didn’t slip, or miss, later in the round when unleashing a right hand that absolutely floored Mickey Gall. A stance switch came mid-combination, and Brahimaj connected by the ear, dropping Gall and following up with just a wee bit of ground n’ pound before the ref made the save.
Brahimaj, trading wins and losses of late, gets back in the win column after falling to Themba Gorimbo last time out. As for Mickey Gall, who shot to stardom early in his career as an opponent of CM Punk, it may unfortunately have been his last walk in the UFC.
Official Result: Ramiz Brahimaj def. Mickey Gall by KO, Round 1, 2:55
