Bantamweight Klaudia Syguła made her octagon debut at UFC Vegas 100 on Saturday, taking on Melissa Mullins to kick off the preliminary card action.
Mullins had missed weight for the fight on Friday, the second consecutive weight miss for the British fighter.
Saturday’s Fight Night card, not exactly the deepest of events, marked the 100th Fight Night show held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas since the coming and going of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the first round, it was a feeling-out process for the first bit of the fight. Mullins was the one coming forward and Syguła was touching her with some pop shots. Syguła would clinch up with Mullins and push her to the cage. She used the head and arm throw to sneak to the back of Mullins standing. Mullins was able to work in double underhooks and get the takedown away from the cage. Mullins would land some short right hands while in half-guard. She would move to mount and land some heavy ground and pound in the last ten seconds.
In round two, the action started with Syguła coming forward but eating some clubbing blows by Mullins. Syguła got overzealous and walked into another bodylock takedown. This time Mullins was able to move into mount with much more time left on the clock. Mullins was landing a lot of unanswered punches. She did a great job controlling the wrist with one hand and unloading with the other. Syguła was not getting out and the ref would step in.
Official Result: Melissa Mullins def. Klaudia Syguła by TKO (ground n’ pound), round 2, 1:20
