Epic Pictures Group, the studio that distributed the original Terrifier horror film (the threequel of which made big bucks at the box office this Halloween season) has announced a new sci-fi horror project headlined by none other than UFC legend Donald Cerrone.
“Cowboy” Cerrone is set to star in Winter: Battleground, directed by David Christopher Pitt in his feature film directorial debut. Per Variety (h/t to SportNet’s Aaron Bronsteter), Cerrone will be portraying a “battle-hardened warrior in a post-apocalyptic world, where he must lead a team against powerful forces in an AI-controlled wasteland.”
“With Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone leading the charge, we’re thrilled to take audiences on a thrilling journey through a dystopian world where courage and camaraderie are the ultimate weapons,” said producer Jeffrey Decker. “This project marks an exciting new chapter for Cowboy, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Cerrone, a UFC Hall of Famer who competed for lightweight gold in both the WEC and UFC, retired from fighting in July of 2022. He recently announced his intent to return to action, after not competing in any form of combat since his loss to Jim Miller.
No stranger to acting, Cerrone has appeared in over 20 productions, including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (playing himself), The Equalizer 2, the rebooted Magnum P.I., the Sydney Sweeney-led Americana, and Prime Video/Chris Pratt hit The Terminal List.
Winter: Battleground is currently in post-production with footage showcased at the American Film Market recently.
