In what was a much better night for Team Canada, the Canadian contingent at Saturday’s UFC Edmonton went 6-2 on the night.
That will no doubt take the sting off January’s disastrous date in Toronto. As a plus, Canadian fighters also took home two of four Performance of the Night bonuses awarded.
With no Fight of the Night announced, instead it was Charles Jourdain and Jasmine Jasudavicius cashing in for Canada. Jourdain became the first man to stop Victor Henry, with a guillotine choke in the second round of their preliminary card fight. The bout represented Jourdain’s debut as a bantamweight, and a very successful one at that.
Jasudavicius, ranked #14 in the women’s flyweight division to start the night, also earned a submission win, forcing Brazil’s Ariane Da Silva to tap to a d’arce choke, much to the delight of teammate Mike Malott, who was with the media during the fight. The win carries a little more weight, given Da Silva (then Ariane Lipski) earned the 2020 Submission of the Year from UFC.com (which just missing out on our own year-end awards that year).
The remaining bonuses at UFC Edmonton went to Dustin Stoltzfus, who put away Canadian Marc-Andre Barriault on the feet, and Youssef Zalal. Zalal floored Welsh featherweight Jack Shore with a knee, but wound up submitting him with an arm-triangle choke.
The UFC Edmonton card was a big one for the company, taking in a record $2.6 million U.S. gate, making it the most lucrative Fight Night in company history. 16,439 fans were in attendance at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta for the show.
All four bonus winners will take home $50,000 U.S. on top of their show/win money.
