Erin Blanchfield Makes Her Case For Fight With Grasso

UFC flyweight Erin Blanchfield scored the biggest win of her career when she took a decision victory against Rose Namajunas at UFC Edmonton on Saturday night.

Now she’s aiming even higher with her sights set on former flyweight champion Alexa Grasso.

“I think she already said something about that she would love to take that fight,” Blanchfield told reporters including Cageside Press at her post-fight scrum.

“I think it’s going to happen.”

Blanchfield (13-2) bounced back from her first UFC loss by coming back and beating a former champion and future UFC hall of famer in Namajunas. The fight against Grasso is definitely on the table for her.

It would also mean taking on another elite boxer possibly in Mexico City in February.

“She’s another great boxer just like Rose is so I can see it being similar (to tonight),” she said.

“I don’t know about Mexico, but we’ll see.”

The victory over Namjunas gives her a second former champion to add to her resume. Building towards a title shot wins over former champions carries a lot more weight than regular wins.

“Fighting against these levels of opponent I think will really set me up. I don’t want to fight people that are not necessarily ever going to be champs themselves. I feel like that’s not going to give me the experience I need so that’s why I called out someone like Alexa.” she said.

Experience against champion-worthy opponents can propel her to a title shot sooner than later. A win over Grasso would be monumental to her career.

“I feel like I’m building my own legacy. I’m 25-years-old, I’m gaining these wins against super tough opponents, and I’m learning every time,” she told Cageside Press.
