Middleweights Abus Magomedov and Brunno Ferreira faced off on the UFC 308 preliminary card, with both fighters undefeated in 2024.
Ferreira, a signee from season 6 of Dana White’s Contender Series, came into this fight with back-to-back wins over Phil Hawes and Dustin Stoltzfus so far this year, with both wins earning him post-fight bonuses. Magomedov, a PFL veteran who came into the UFC in 2022 after a win in KSW, had fought once in 2024, claiming victory over Warlley Alves back in May.
Ferreira is known for being an action fighter with a fan-friendly style, only getting out of first round once in his 13-fight career. As for the German, he is an explosive fighter who is dangerous early, yet still vulnerable as the fight goes on.
Round 1 starts and the slight betting favourite Magomedov comes out with his usual pressure early. Ferreira, content to circle around and constantly switching stances, seems happy to just wait for a clear opening before throwing. Magomedov uses a kicking-heavy approach, using his length to his advantage and forcing the Brazilian to swing at air. After 1, it is 10-9 Magomedov based on volume.
Ferreira starts the second round with more urgency and pushes his opponent back. Magomedov responds by moving forward, but a big shot by Ferreira rocks him. Ferreira follows up with a kick, forcing Magomedov to shoot for a takedown. The Brazilian instinctively grabs a guillotine that he loses not too long after. Magomedov ends up in top position and finds his way to Ferreira’s back, but gets too high and with both fighters being this sweaty, he slides off. Once back on the feet, Magomedov seems like the most tired of the two and like he hasn’t fully recovered from the big left hands he ate earlier. Ferreira senses it and lands several good punches. He then spins for a spinning back elbow but ends up giving his back in the process, allowing Magomedov to take the fight back to the ground and hold it there until the end of the round. Ferreira takes the round 10-9 after having Magomedov hurt on multiple occasions.
Both fighters start round three with big swings and it is Ferreira who hurts Magomedov again, but instead of taking his time, opts for a spinning elbow, allowing Magomedov to duck under and shoot for a takedown. Ferreira finds his way to the feet and immediately after taking a long look at the clock, Magomedov shoots a blast double leg that grounds Ferreira. With both fighters exhausted, it is the German who locks up an arm-triangle submission, becoming the first fighter to submit Brunno Ferreira in his professional career.
Official result: Abus Magomedov def. Brunno Ferreira by submission (arm-triangle choke), Round 3, 3:14
