Just four fights into his professional career, Micah Haas has developed a process of prepartation that helps him focus on his growth as a fighter. He puts care into what is important to him first and only begins gameplanning for what will be across for him later on in camp.
“I typically don’t watch my opponents prior to signing a contract. I usually wait like a month into my camp because I want my camp to be more me-focused than them-focused,” he said. “A month out, I transition to watching tape to create a gameplan.”
Despite that being Haas’ perferred mode of operation, he had to stray a bit from that this time around. Upon signing with LFA, they went through a number of possible opponents – many of which did not work out. As a result, when it came time to take this fight, he had seen a bit of his next opponent.
“Because [Erik Calvert] was like the sixth or seventh option, I did look at a little tape prior to it. I think I saw one of his fights. It might have been amateur or his pro debut. But then I saw his age and said ‘let’s go,” Haas explained. “Nobody his age is going to beat me – first and foremost. I don’t care how long he’s been training or intense he’s been training, he doesn’t have the amount of miles I do.”
That experience from his early professional and long amateur career he believes will be the biggest difference. However, that isn’t to overlook his style, which he believes will bring an exciting fight to fans on Friday.
“It ends in violence!” he said. “I don’t have the greatest finish rate as a pro, but if you go and watch my fights – one, they are absolutely exciting, and two, absolutely violent, and three, I’m absolutely dominating these guys.”
You can catch Haas’ fight with Erik Calvert as part of the LFA 195 main card. It airs on UFC Fight Pass starting at 10pm EST.
