UFC APEX – UFC flyweight Charles Johnson spent some time training with Max Holloway in Hawaii in preparation for his bout with Sumudaerji at UFC Vegas 99 on Saturday night.
“Being around Max is somebody who’s been in this promotion since he was 20, 21-years-old. I just see a lot of what he does that I do as well, but I can be better at,” Johnson told reporters on Wednesday.
“Getting in there just understanding what he’s doing (and) his mindset. We know he’s offensive and he’s pressuring. He can do it all. Getting to feel it and see it first hand is different. So that was my whole goal in getting there. It was great all the way around.”
Johnson (16-6) gets Sumudaerji at UFC Vegas 99 on Saturday night. He may not have been the opponent that ‘InnerG’ wanted, but it may get him to another goal of his quicker.
“Thankful for another opportunity. Upset it wasn’t a ranked opponent, but understanding that it’s my third fight on this contract. It’s going to allow me to get to my next contract and I think it’s a great moment for me to show the UFC exactly what I can be in this promotion,” he said.
“It’s a great fight for me to go out there and set the tone for 2025.”
