Salt Lake City – UFC bantamweight Kayla Harrison is close to a title shot in just her second fight with the promotion, but she’s got to get past Ketlen Vieira at UFC 307 on Saturday night first.
“I think Ketlen is a good fighter. I think she’s well-rounded. She’s got a judo black belt people have been talking to me about. A jiu jitsu black belt,” Harrison told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“I believe in my heart that I’m better everywhere. On the feet, on the ground, grappling. It’s going to be a long night for Ketlen.”
Harrison (17-1) may even get a title shot last second. She hasn’t officially been named the backup, but it’s very likely she’d step into the co-main event should one of the fighters fall out.
“I haven’t heard like officially from the UFC, but from what I understand I’ll be stepping in if someone f*cks up,” she said.
The possibility is also on UFC bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington’s mind as she’s said in interviews she also trained for the possibility of fighting Harrison on fight night. Pennington has said that she felt like Julianna Peña would not make it to fight night.
“I was surprised to hear that, but I think there’s something….I’ve got a vibe about it too. That was smart of her, but I mean it doesn’t really matter. You can could have the rest of your life to prepare for me,” she said.
“You’re not going to be ready.”
