Paris – UFC featherweight Morgan Charriere faces Gabriel Miranda at UFC Paris on Saturday, and it’s a good thing too as the French fighter says he does not want to fight his fellow countrymen.
Charriere (19-10-1) has faced fellow Frenchmen before, one in particular William Gomis who fights on Saturday as well, and it’s something he doesn’t enjoy.
“No not really (a rematch with Gomis in the future). We had to fight together, we had to fight against French,” Charriere told reporters on Wednesday.
“A lot of French people. No I don’t want to face anymore French guy. The world is big. I can face anybody outside of my country so why fight someone with the same dream as me? Even if they’re the same weight class as me.”
That doesn’t mean he would rule out a fight against a fellow countryman if the stakes were right.
“If it’s for a title fight or a ranking, maybe, but you never know if it’s going to happen. I’m not planning to fight any French guy, any Frenchmen, never.”
So does Charriere have a name in mind for after UFC Paris?
“Not really. I’m focused on Saturday night. After, I’m focused on vacation, so it’s my manager (who) will do this. You send me a name and I’ll fight. I just want to fight,” he said.
“Saturday night I hope to finish the fight. I’ve no idea on the round, but I think if the fight is in control, and everything’s (going) like we planned we should get a finish.”
