An important fight for the UFC heavyweight division has been moved from UFC 308 to UFC 310 in December due to an injury Alexander Volkov suffered in preparation for his fight with Cyril Gane.
First reported by La Sueur.
The injury to Volkov wasn’t revealed, and the promotion is yet to officially announce the move, but it delays a massive fight in the division between the #2 and #3 ranked heavyweights.
#3 Volkov (38-10) is coming off a decision victory over fellow Russian Sergei Pavlovich at their Fight Night bout in Riyadh last June. That set his current win streak at four with victories over Pavlovich, Tai Tuivasa, Alexandr Romanov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
#2 Gane (12-2) is searching for a path back to a win streak. The former champion brought a 6-fight win streak into his title victory over Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 in 2021. He dropped the title against Francis Ngannou at UFC 270.
Since then Gane has gone 2-1 with the lone loss against current champion Jon Jones when they fought for the vacant title left behind by Ngannou.
