UFC 306 arrived on Saturday at The Sphere in Las Vegas, with one of the most creative, inspired productions the promotion has put on in years playing out at the unique Las Vegas venue.
While the preliminary card fights were more or less played out to a static LED backdrop, the main card included video packages exploring the history of Mexican combat sports (not to mention a bit of Mexican history), and backdrops including Aztec pyramids and a Cinco de Mayo themes.
In short, stunning visuals that practically exploded out of the screen, and if there was a downside, it’s that the UFC chose to leave these stunning effects to the Pay-Per-View portion of the card, instead of showing just a little on the prelims to draw fans in.
Minor quibbles. And what matters most at the end of the day is the fights themselves, and those for the most part delivered. Two titles changed hands on Saturday, with Valentina Shevchenko reclaiming women’s flyweight gold, and Merab Dvalishvili stopping the “Suga Show” in its tracks (or more accurately, wrestling his way to a five-round decision).
Following the event, the key players were on hand for the UFC 306 / Noche UFC post-fight press conference. Be sure to catch the live stream above.
