Branded as this year’s Noche UFC and brought to you for some reason by Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season, UFC 306 is set to celebrate Mexican Independence Day this Saturday.
The card features a hotly anticipated clash of styles between bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili, a fight that was on the radar as far back as 2018. Since then, Contender Series product O’Malley has taken his place as one of the most talked about stars in the sport, while Dvalishvili, a standout Georgian wrestler, has been circled as the potential kryptonite to the “Suga Show’s” skillful striking.
Of course, neither of those fighters really represents Mexico at the end of the day (no matter what they might say in various media engagements). Alexa Grasso, of course, does, as the UFC’s lone remaining Mexican champion at the moment. She anchors the co-main event this Saturday, in a third fight with Valentina Shevchenko, with the series 1-0-1 in favor of Grasso.
The whole shebang goes down at The Sphere in Las Vegas, with Dana White and co. planning to make a spectacle at the unique venue, in a one-off event that may never been seen in the promotion again. Weigh-ins for UFC 306 take place on Friday starting at 12PM ET, 9AM PT. Results can be found below.
