Las Vegas – UFC lightweight Daniel Zellhuber is ready for any opponent, but he was a bit surprised to see Esteban Ribovics as the man who will stand across from him at Noche UFC on Saturday night.
“I don’t understand why UFC’s like making us fight as young prospects,” Zellhuber told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“I guess they are trying to kind of like spice the things up in the division. Lightweight division is one of the toughest in the sport if not the most competitive one. We see time after time, after time, contenders getting into the top 10, top 5, and then they just go kick out again.”
Zellhuber (15-1) isn’t taking the opportunity for granted. With 155 stacked with talent it’s very difficult to break into the rankings let along title contention.
“It’s also good that they are doing this because the guys that made it to the rankings, nothing is for free you know, there’s certain divisions where you kind of like fight one, two fights, and you’re already in ranking,” he said.
“In lightweight division you can be on a 9-win fight streak and not even be top 10. That talks about the complexity of the division.”
