The UFC’s second trip to Canada in 2024 continues to grow, with a former flyweight champion added to the mix most recently.
Per an announcement by UFC President and CEO Dana White, Brandon Moreno (21-8-2) will face Amir Albazi (17-1) at UFC Edmonton on November 2, 2024. The previously announced event is set to take place at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, with Erin Blanchfield vs. Rose Namajunas supposedly headlining. Per White, however, it’s now Moreno vs. Albazi in the main event slot.
With Moreno joining Namajunas on the card, the promotion’s return to Edmonton now features two former champions, and a former title challenger in heavyweight Derrick Lewis. Mexico’s Moreno, who coincidentally will be missing this year’s Noche UFC card at the Sphere, had been taking time off, and has not fought since a February loss to Brandon Royval.
That marked Moreno’s second straight defeat, after the two-time flyweight champ lost his title to Alexandre Pantoja one fight previously.
Amir Albazi has been on a tear since joining the UFC, with five straight wins inside the octagon and six straight overall. He has not competed since June of 2023, however, when he earned a split decision over Kai Kara-France.
With the addition of Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi, UFC Edmonton now features the following match-ups:
