November’s UFC 309, expected to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, has added a bantamweight showdown.
Jonathan Martinez (19-5) will face Marcus McGhee (9-1) at the event, set for November 16, 2024 at the famed MSG arena. Iridium Sports Agency, who represent both fighters, announced the news on Monday.
Martinez will be looking to return to the win column in the fight, after falling to former UFC and WEC featherweight champ Jose Aldo in the Brazilian’s comeback fight in May. That unanimous decision loss snapped a six-fight win streak Martinez had compiled dating back to March of 2021.
McGhee, a.k.a. “The Maniac,” is 3-0 under the UFC banner and has quickly become a fan favorite. All three of those wins have earned McGhee Performance of the Night bonuses, but Martinez will mark a significant step up in competition for the LFA alum.
UFC 309 does not have a main event officially announced, but all signs point to Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic finally coming to fruition for the heavyweight title. The following pairings have been reported for the November PPV to date:
- Chris Weidman vs. Eryk Anders
- Karine Silva vs. Viviane Araújo
- Nikita Krylov vs. Azamat Murzakanov
- Veronica Hardy vs. Eduarda Moura
- Jonathan Martinez vs. Marcus McGhee
