Oliveira (34-10) returned to action after missing out on a title fight with champion Islam Makhachev last October due to injury. He took on Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 last April only to lose via split-decision.
Four months after that loss Oliveira says he’ll be ready to come back soon. He wrote on Instagram:
“Family, I’m dying to fight and I know you all want to see me fight. I’m hoping my fight will be coming soon and I’m counting on all of you to support me. I’m doing my part by training 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼. Soon the lightweight lion is going to hunt! 🦁👊🏼👊🏼”
Oliveria lost his lightweight title at UFC 274 after he missed weight on the scale. Although many felt something had happened with the scale he was ultimately ineligible to retain his title. He went on to finish Justin Gaethje via rear naked choke in the first round, but the lightweight title was vacated.
Five months after losing his title Oliveira met Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi to battle for the vacated title. Makhachev ultimately won that via arm triangle in the second round making him the current UFC lightweight champion.
After defeating Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 Oliveira was set to fight Makhachev again, but a bad cut in training took him out of the fight and he was instead booked against Tsarukyan about six months later.
No word on potential opponents, but having been a former champion, there will not be a shortage of names for ‘DoBronx’ to fight.
