Shamil Musaev came away from PFL Washington this past Friday with his third win of the season, a spot in the welterweight final, and a chance to claim a million dollars just months from now.
Needless to say, Musaev’s 2024 campaign has been a success, as he observed following a unanimous decision victory over Murad Ramazanov at The Anthem in Washington, D.C.
“Obviously the year is going really well. I had three victories over tough opponents, I’m in the finals,” said Musaev, speaking through an interpreter. “Now the last fight is all that’s left.”
That last fight will come against fellow Russian Magomed Umalatov, and no doubt means a lot to Musaev, now an unbeaten 17-0-1 as a pro. As the former KSW fighter noted, being in the final, “that’s pretty much the essence, the goal, right? The goal was always to come here, try to win this tournament, become a champion and be the belt. So it means everything. That’s the goal.”
Three of the four welterweight semifinalists this PFL season were Russian, and four of the eight main card fighters at PFL Washington hailed from the nation. Despite that, Musaev isn’t really concerned with where his opponents are from.
“I’ve fought my fellow countrymen. It really doesn’t matter to me, I’m just trying to win,” he stated.
