Welterweights Neil Magny and Michael Morales clashed on the main card of UFC Vegas 96, in a tried and tested veteran versus up-and-comer match-up.

At just 25, Morales was already 16-0 to start the night but essentially still a prospect, while Magny held both the welterweight wins and fights record in the UFC.

Early on during Saturday’s contest at the UFC Apex, Morales attacked low with his kicks, but by the second minute, he was playing defense, Magny controlling from the back with a body lock along the fence. The grinding pace was more Magny’s style and allowed him to neutralize the power of Morales. Magny, determined, put his weight on Morales, forcing him to one knee. Morales, however, spun out, landing a spinning elbow in the process that dropped Magny!

That allowed Michael Morales to get on top, though Magny would recover for the time being. Still, before long, Morales got Magny back down, moving to mount and pounding away with less than a minute on the clock. Magny covered up, spun around, but gave up his back, and that allowed Morales to rain down enough ground n’ pound to force the stoppage!

With the win, Morales improves to 17-0, with five of those wins inside the octagon.

Official Result: Michael Morales def. Neil Magny by TKO, Round 1, 4:39
