Angela Hill believes her current assignment, at UFC Vegas 96 against Tabatha Ricci, is another opportunity to show fans where she’s at.
During this week’s UFC Vegas 96 media day, “Overkill,” a former TUF fighter on her second stint with the company, not to mention an Invicta FC champ, noted that “I think this is another good one to show the level I’ve gotten to.”
“I think this is another fight that I can show that I’ve just been in the game so long, I know so many things.”
Now 36, Hill was just 1-0 as a pro when she joined The Ultimate Fighter 20, which ushered in the women’s strawweight division back in 2014. Ten years later, she sports a 17-13 record, a full thirty fights, having become known as the “female Cowboy” due to her busy schedule, in a nod to Donald Cerrone.
The ability to both keep that schedule and fight anyone, including those behind her in the rankings, comes about because “I’ve been improving the entire time,” suggested Hill. “I haven’t stagnated and it’s easier to show it with people with less experience than with people who have been grinding just as long as you have.”
On top of that, “I have nothing to lose,” she added. “I feel confident against the people lower than me, I feel confident against the people higher than me. And I think when someone’s holding onto that ranking and not really wanting to budge, they feel like they need to swing the luck in their favor. For me, I feel I can beat anyone, it’s just a matter of coming in with the right mindset, training hard, being ready that day and I feel like I can do that with anyone. It’s just a matter of putting that on paper and actually showing up and doing what I can feel like I can do.”
As Hill also noted, there was a point where Tabatha Ricci was ranked ahead of her. “So it’s not like that can change after sitting out for five months. I’d rather fight, get paid, hopefully get a win and move on to the next person.”
