Australian lightweight Tom Nolan heads into UFC 305 in Perth this Saturday coming off his first win inside the octagon, while competing for the fourth time in roughly 12 months.
Nolan (7-1) will look to build on an explosive finish of Victor Martinez in May when he takes on Alex Reyes at the RAC Arena this weekend. The match-up has garnered its share of criticism, with Reyes idle the past 11 months or so, while having fought just once since 2017.
For Nolan, however, that hasn’t changed how he has approached the fight. “I’m ready for everything. Like I said in my interviews before, I trained like I’m fighting Superman, like I’m fighting a God out there,” he exclaimed during the UFC 305 media day this week. “No matter what the odds say, no matter what anyone says about how this fight’s going to go, I’m treating it like he’s the best in the world, and I’m going to go out there and be better.”
For the Contender Series fighter, 1-1 in the UFC thus far, the fight is an opportunity to introduce himself to the world at large. “I want to show the world my skills and who I am. And also it just proves to a few idiots who think that I struggle to make weight, well I’m making weight four times in a calendar year very easily.”
In addition to his win over Martinez, Tom Nolan finished Bogdan Grad on the Contender Series in August 2023, then lost his promotional debut to Nikolas Motta.
