Perth – UFC flyweight Steve Erceg makes his return to the octagon three months after his first title shot to take on Kai Kara-France at UFC 305 on Saturday night.
“Honestly life has been exactly the same. I learned a lot of lessons I got a lot of confidence from the performance,” Erceg told reporters on Wednesday.
“Didn’t go my way but I know that I can hang at that level. I know I can go five rounds and push the pace. Lot of good things that came out of the fight even though I didn’t get the result that I wanted.”
Erceg (12-2) lost a decision to champion Alexandre Pantoja in Brazil at UFC 301. Many made a case for him deserving the win, but ultimately fell short. With the UFC returning to Perth it was only right to have the Perth-based Erceg on the card.
“Soon as I was back I was back in the gym getting ready for whatever the future held at the time. I knew they were coming to Perth. I wanted to be on it. They were happy to have me on, have a Perth boy represent on the card, so as long as I wasn’t injured I was taking the fight whoever they gave me,” Erceg said.
In front of him is Kai Kara-France who makes his return to the cage after being away over a year.
“He’s a very good fighter. He’s super explosive, very good takedown defense, he hits really hard. I definitely have to mind my p’s and q’s, but I just think I’m better at the end of the day,” he said.
“We’re going to find out on Sunday morning.”
