Perth – UFC lightweight Dan Hooker looks to capitalize on facing the #5 ranked Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305 on Saturday night.
“I love it. I love that sexy little number he’s got next to his name,” Hooker told reporters on Wednesday.
“That’s all I’m coming for.”
Hooker (23-12) also has a number next to his name coming it at #11, but a victory over the top 5 ranked Gamrot could spell huge dividends for the City Kickboxing product. He hopes the win gets him one of the big names he’s been calling out for a while.
“They’ll have to (take the fight). That completely changes the direction. A lot of the big names in the division are all coming off losses. (Charles) Oliveira, (Dustin) Poirier, (Justin) Gaethje, (Michael) Chandler. All of these guys are going to want something I have which is going to be a three-fight win streak,” Hooker said.
In Gamrot he faces a skilled grappler who likes to control where the fight goes with his wrestling. Hooker, know more for going to war on the feet, was forced to train a lot of grappling in camp.
“It’s just been a pest of a training camp really. Just everyone diving at your legs for the past six weeks. I can’t say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had, but getting hit in the head a lot less…it’s not bad,” he said with a smile.
“It’s not bad.”
