It appears Charles Jourdain will no longer be a UFC featherweight. Instead, the Canadian standout intends to compete in the bantamweight division.
Jourdain, a former TKO double-champ at both featherweight and lightweight (155lbs), announced the news on social media platform Twitter/X on Wednesday.
“I will [be] performing at bantamweight,” Jourdain (15-8-1) announced. “My walk around weight is 155. In camp I’m 152 max. Last weight cut I had 2 pounds to water cut after the UFC protocol. I’ve always been a small featherweight yet performed well(ish) because of my explosive muscle fiber.”
Jourdain, who hails from Quebec, does not currently have a fight booked. He last competed at UFC 303 as part of International Fight Week, where he was knocked out by Jean Silva (who would immediately turn around and defeat Drew Dober on short notice two weeks later).
The 28-year old started his career going 9-1 before being signed directly to the UFC in 2019. He debuted as a lightweight, losing to Des Green, before moving down to 145lbs. With a 6-7-1 record overall and wins against Kron Gracie and Lando Vannata among others, Jourdain has had a decent run and become something of a fan favorite, but finds his back against the wall nonetheless.
Jourdain has never before competed at 135lbs as a pro.
Depending on his timetable for return, Charles Jourdain could be part of the UFC’s anticipated return to Canada in Edmonton, Alberta this November.
