Former Cage Warriors champ Jordan Vucenic made his octagon debut on Saturday at UFC Abu Dhabi, where he took on a tough first opponent in Guram Kutateladze.
Vucenic would no doubt have his hands full in a fighter who had shared the cage with the likes of Mateusz Gamrot and Elves Brener.
The fight got started with a feeling-out process for the first minute. Vucenic was the one confident enough to let his hands go, landing as he was going forward. Vucenic was going first and throwing combinations. Kutateladze was content on the outside trying to get his kicks off. Vucenic was staying busy as Kutateladze was pretty much just waiting. It cost Kutateladze too as Vucenic dropped him with a laser right hand. Kutateladze was busted open over his left eye. Vucenic didn’t follow up with any damage on top but Kutateladze ended the round off his back.
Round two started and Vucenic was riding off a lot of momentum from round one. Kutateladze came out throwing more but Vucenic wasn’t bothered. The speed of Vucenic was evident as it was so much of an issue Kutateladze shot for a takedown. Vucenic defended but did take a nice elbow from Kutateladze off the clinch. Vucenic wasn’t letting Kutateladze rest as he pressed Kutateladze against the cage. They took turns controlling in the clinch before they separated. A minute left and Kutateladze landed a left hook to the body and a liver kick that landed clean. He then was able to get the body lock and get the takedown to end the round there.
In the final round, Vucenic started throwing his hands into a takedown of his own. Kutateladze used the wizard to get right back up and eventually land on top of Vucenic’s guard. Kutateladze was busy with the hammer fist but tried to jump on the back. As he was about to slip off he was able to barely get his hooks in. With the body hook in Kutateladze kept that position for the last minute and a half. Comeback complete, with Guram Kutateladze winning the second and third rounds to take the unanimous decision win.
Official Result: Guram Kutateladze def. Jordan Vucenic by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
