Abu Dhabi – UFC strawweight Mackenzie Dern looks to snap a two-fight losing streak against Loopy Godinez at UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Godinez is a wrestle-heavy type of fighter with solid striking, but going to the ground with Dern may not be the best way to go.
“I think she’ll stand and strike. She probably has a good base. If she feels like it maybe she’ll try and take down and do like ground and pound,” Dern told reporters in Wednesday.
“But we saw her fight with Virna (Jandiroba) who pulled guard and Loopy lost. I don’t how much she’ll want to risk being on the ground. I don’t know if she’ll want to risk that specially because we’re both coming off losses and we both want this win so, so bad.”
Dern (13-5) is on a two-fight losing streak having dropped fights against Jessica Andrade and Amanda Lemos most recently. Still she believes the level of fights she’s had in the UFC is much higher than anything Godinez has faced.
“I don’t know how many top 5 fighters Loopy has fought. My last few fights have been like all former champions or title challengers. Really hard hitters,” Dern said.
