Gustavo Balart Misses Weight for ONE Fight Night 24 Title Fight with Jarred Brooks

Former ONE strawweight champ Jarred Brooks will be eligible to capture interim gold at Friday’s ONE Fight Night 24, but challenger Gustavo Balart will not be claiming a title win or lose.

That’s because Balart (12-4) missed championship weight at Thursday’s official weigh-in, coming in a single pound heavy at 126lbs.

Both fighters passed their hydration tests.

It’s a stunning turn of events for a highly anticipated fight in the lower weight classes. Brooks (20-3, 1NC) has slowly built himself into a star for ONE Championship, winning seven fights dating back to 2018, including his final bout as a UFC flyweight. That run saw him capture strawweight gold for ONE, though he would lose the belt in a rematch with Joshua Pacio, the man he won the title off of.

A victory on Friday is an instant ticket to another fight with Pacio. For Brooks, at least. As for Balart, who enters on a four-fight win streak, should he see his hand raised, the interim belt will remain vacant.
