Manchester – UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett was more than ready to fire back at the doubters following his submission victory over King Green at UFC 304 on Saturday night.
“Oh that’s great. You can’t beat shutting some d*ck heads up. It’s f*cking brilliant,” Pimblett told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“I love shutting haters up, lad. The amount of people that I’ve seen say ‘he’s never going to be ranked. He’s not good enough to be ranked. He’ll never be in the top 15’ all that. Even fighters I’ve seen on YouTube people talking sh*t. Then I just go out there and put on a flawless performance and absolutely school him.”
Pimblett (22-3) has dealt with criticism with the UFC seemingly giving him the promotional push as one of the U.K. rising stars.
“Everyone’s talking all week it was ‘ah Bobby’s going to dog walk Paddy. He’s not going to be able to get near him on the feet. I jabbed his head off, and leg kicked him everywhere. I think he hit me in the stomach once. I’m fresh as a daisy,” he said.
“Then I caught him in a sub and no one subbed him since January 2009. I finished a second faster than Islam Makhachev.”
The week wasn’t a complete smooth one with Pimblett and bantamweight Caolan Loughran getting into it on a fighter bus.
“He stood up and starting chatting sh*t, lad. I was literally sitting at the back of the bus speaking to someone and just said, ‘oh Jordan Vucenic’s being signed here’ another Cage Warriors fighter,” Pimblett told Cageside Press.
“I think I said ‘it’s funny the way Vucenic and Morgan Charriere have been signed, and Paul Hughes is fighting on PFL the B Leagues’. And (Loughran) stood up and went ‘Paul Hughes would smoke you’. So I was like lad who are you talking to? Major Chip Hazard (character from Toy Soldiers).”
The clip made it online and went viral quickly with some fans criticizing Pimblett or going at Loughran.
“People made a big deal out of that like I was trying to bully him. He started it,” he said.
“If you’re going to start something with me lad be prepared to finish it because i’ll put you in your place.”
