How crazy did things get ahead of KSW 96, which goes down Saturday in Lodz, Poland?
Hugo Deux caused fight fans to do a double-take when he missed weight by seven pounds, coming in at 163lbs for a lightweight fight with Nicolae Bivol. For his part, Bivol said “nah, thanks anyway” or whatever the equivalent is in his native Romanian, and can you blame him? At seven pounds, the fight is basically up a weight class.
As for Welisson Paiva… well, by the time weigh-ins had completed, he hadn’t even shown up, still in transit to Lodz. Paiva was allowed to weigh in upon arrival at the fighter hotel, suggesting that his tardiness was outside of his control. Isai Ramos and Sandra Succar both missed weight for their respective bouts, meanwhile, but at least those moved forward.
At least there were no hiccups for the main event of middleweight champ Pawel Pawlak versus Damian Janikowski. The fight was a rematch, with Pawlak winning their first meeting via unanimous decision back in 2021.
