Dan Hooker’s long search for an opponent for UFC 305 has finally ended.

It appears #5 ranked lightweight, Mateusz Gamrot, has answered the call. The pair of fighters will scrap on August 17 on the UFC 305 main card in Perth, Western Australia.

Hooker let news of the booking slip via his Instagram Story recently.

Dan Hooker (23-12) fought just one time in 2023, something of an anomaly. The City Kickboxing fighter has fought two or three times a year since joining the UFC 10 years ago. Hooker suffered a broken hand in preparation for his bout against Jalin Turner (Gamrot actually replaced him on short notice), early last year and had another bout cancelled against Bobby Green in December thanks to a reoccurring arm injury.

Hooker has won three of his last five fights since his loss welcoming Michael Chandler to the UFC, in early 2021. His last fight was a split decision victory over Jalin Turner last July.  Still the #11 ranked lightweight in the UFC, Hooker will have the ‘home’ fans backing him in his return to the octagon.

Mateusz Gamrot (24-2) has accumulated a dominant 7-2 record in the UFC since he joined the organization in 2020. Gamrot has only lost his promotional debut to Guram Kutateladze and against Beneil Dairush in 2022. “Gamer” is currently riding a three-fight win streak. A split decision victory against Jalin Turner, a TKO victory over Rafael Fiziev, and most recently, a unanimous decision win over RDA back in March.

The addition of Hooker vs. Gamrot leaves the UFC 305 main card with four fights. And the card as a whole, bursting at the seams with 12 announced fights at the writing of this article:

  • Dricus Du Plessis (c) vs. Israel Adesanya – for the UFC middleweight championship
