Uncasville – Bellator flyweight champion now PFL fighter Liz Carmouche draws yet another rematch when she faces Kana Watanabe at PFL 4 on Thursday night.
“With Kana with it being such a quick result (last time) to me didn’t have an opportunity to showcase what either side had to offer and really test to see what we’re both capable of,” Carmouche told Cageside Press.
“I think I caught her off guard, and I don’t think that’s going to happen this time. That’s what I get excited about. Knowing that the best version of herself is going to come out on Thursday night, but also the best version of me.”
Carmouche (21-7) defeated Watanabe via first round TKO at Bellator 261 in 2021.
‘Girl-rilla’ had 10 bouts in the UFC including being a part of the promotion’s first female fight in history when she fought Ronda Rousey at UFC 157 in 2013. There have been plenty of champions since that time, but the flyweight queen in the UFC is currently Alexa Grasso.
One must wonder what would happen if Carmouche and Grasso would be matched up.
“A fight against Alexa would be a really fun one, but I like it as like a cross promotion rather than going back to the UFC,” she said.
“I think that everything happened for a reason. If I hadn’t left the UFC I don’t think I would have been a champion. I was in my head too much and making mistakes and that being in Bellator helped focus. Having an opportunity to get a million dollars in PFL you can’t shut that down, but it’s also something new.”
