Randy Brown Past Chiesa Fight At This Point

Newark – UFC welterweight Randy Brown had originally wanted a fight with one of the bigger names at 170, but he faces Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos at UFC 302 on Saturday night.

Brown (18-5) had called out welterweight staple Michael Chiesa, but accepted the dos Santos fight when it was offered. Subsequently Chiesa has been matched up against Tony Ferguson for the UFC’s return to Abu Dhabi in August.

“I don’t care about Chiesa man,” Brown told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.

“I just wanted to fight. I wanted to fight somebody with a name, he was in the rankings, I felt I deserved to fight in the rankings. I don’t give a f*ck about Chiesa.”

With Chiesa no longer ranked Brown has no interest in fighting him anymore.

“He’s out the rankings now. He’s fighting some old guy. They could go fight. Two old men go fight somewhere. That’s it,” he said.

Brown hasn’t just been working to get a fight that propels him up the rankings. The welterweight has used his social media accounts and Twitch account to reach out to fans.

“I think that it’s important for every young athlete to show…we are combat athletes first and foremost,” Brown told Cageside Press.

“But to show a human side and also to show that we’re multifaceted human beings. We’re not just one thing. None of us is just one thing. You get burnt out.”
