With Khalil Rountree Jr. sidelined for a couple of months due to a contaminated supplement issue, Carlos Ulberg has stepped into the UFC 303 co-main event.
In place of Rountree, Ulberg (10-1) will face former light heavyweight champ Jamahal Hill (12-2, 1NC) at UFC 303 on June 29, 2024 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. News of the booking was first reported by the New Zealand Herald on Thursday.
The event caps off this year’s International Fight Week, which includes the UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony and a two-day fan expo.
The booking means a short turnaround for “Black Jag,” who was in action just two weeks ago at UFC St. Louis, where he knocked out Alonzo Menifield. Ulberg, who trains alongside Israel Adesanya at City Kickboxing, is 6-1 under the UFC banner and has not lost since he debut in the promotion, which came opposite Kennedy Nzechukwu.
Ulberg may be taking the fight on short notice, but Jamahal Hill hasn’t had all that much more time to prepare. He was last seen at UFC 300, where he was knocked out in the main event by Alex Pereira, the end result being a meme that will live on in infamy.
Hill is clearly looking to get back on the horse immediately following the setback, which came in his return from Achilles surgery.
UFC 303 sees Conor McGregor face Michael Chandler in the long-awaited The Ultimate Fighter 31 coaches’ fight. The line-up as reported to date breaks down as follows, and is the rare UFC PPV without a title fight expected for the event:
