UFC alum and BKFC fighter Geane Herrera has tragically passed away at just 33.

News of Herrera’s death was announced by Bare Knuckle FC on Monday, with a post dedicated to the fighter’s memory on social media. A report by TMZ shed more light on his passing, which came following a motorcycle accident.

Citing The Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the outlet reports that Herrera crashed into the back of another vehicle on the Gandy Bridge in the Tampa, FL area at a “very high rate of speed” sometime around 10:45PM Saturday night. He then crashed into a barrier and was thrown “hundreds of feet.”

Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Go Fund Me has been established by Herrera’s family.

“Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved Geane Carlos Herrera known in the professional fighting world as “La Pulga”, whose life was cut way too short at only 33 years-old,” a statement attached to the fundraiser reads. “Geane leaves behind a 16 year-old son, his 3-month pregnant girlfriend, mother, father, sisters, a brother and a family that loves him and will deeply miss him.”

“Geane was full of life, always trying to live life to the fullest, he was a dedicated athlete with big dreams of making a difference and leaving his print in this world. He was such a happy go lucky person that left a mark in everyone that came into his life.”

Geane Herrera competed for the UFC four times from 2015 to 2016, facing stiff competition in his debut in the form of future flyweight title challenger Ray Borg. In his second fight with the promotion, Herrera would finish Joby Sanchez by TKO.

In July 2021, Herrera defeated Abdiel Velazquez by TKO under the BKFC banner, in his first fight for the company. He returned to the BKFC ring once the following year, but had not fought since.
