St. Louis – UFC light heavyweight Carlos Ulberg had a feeling he’d be fighting Alonzo Menifield at some point, but he didn’t know it’d be at UFC St. Louis until his original opponent fell out.
“I’ve been watching Menifield for quite some time now and we knew eventually that we’ll be facing each other,” Ulberg told reporters on Wednesday.
“I like Menifield. He’s strong, he’s powerful, he’s explosive as we all know. He’s got the punching power, but he’s in my way.”
Ulberg (9-1) and Menifield crossed paths in 2023 at UFC Perth. Pleasantries were exchanged, but both knew they’d be fighting soon enough.
“Yeah I think it was more just a mental agreement. We shook hands. Saw him at the back in Perth where he fought (Jimmy) Crute, congratulated him for his fight, a very surprising good fight,” he said.
“And we looked at each other like ok we know we’re going to fight each other eventually, but big props and respect to him.”
This fight may end up being fight of the night with both men able to strike with a lot of power. Ulberg believes this is just his first matchup against Menifield.
“Stylistically it’s a good fight for me depending on where the fight goes, but I mean I can see this…this won’t be the last time we fight each other,” said Ulberg.
“I see that he’ll be climbing his way through the ranks after we fight. We will definitely be fighting each other more than once.”
