St. Louis – UFC light heavyweight Alonzo Menifield knew he’d end up in the octagon against Carlos Ulberg sooner or later after an interaction with him backstage at another event.
“Yeah he came out and shook my hand, and my immediate thought like, ‘Man we’re going to fight’,” Menifield told reporters on Wednesday.
Menifield (15-3-1) sort of laughed when hearing that Ulberg had told reporters earlier that day that this would just be the first fight for the two. Ulberg laid out almost an entire plan for when and how he’d end up facing Menifield later on.
“We’ll see. Yeah we’ll do it if we have to. I don’t know, sh*t, what the future entails,” he said.
“But yeah, I’m going to beat you Carl, Carlos.”
Ulberg comes from the famed City Kickboxing which is home to former UFC world champions Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski among other high-level MMA fighters. Menifield hadn’t considered where Ulberg trains when taking the fight.
“He’s his individual self so as far as where he trains or what not I didn’t even think about it, or I haven’t, I don’t know man. I didn’t think about that,” he said.
Regardless of training camp or teammates Menifield has one plan for Ulberg.
“Get in there and put him down. Right on.”
