Looks like Cory Sandhagen and Umar Nurmagomedov will get to share the octagon together, after all.
The two fighters were originally scheduled to do battle in August of last year for the main event of UFC Nashville. Unfortunately, Nurmagomedov withdrew from the bout due to a shoulder injury. Rob Font would step in on short notice to save that card, eventually losing a decisive unanimous decision to Sandhagen.
The UFC announced early Monday morning on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Umar and Cory will fight, August 3rd. The pivotal matchup was announced as a 5 round main event for the fight night card taking place in Abu Dhabi.
Cory Sandhagen, who is currently the #2 ranked UFC bantamweight, has ripped off three wins in a row. Defeating Song Yadong, Marlon Vera and Rob Font since losing a unanimous decision to Petr Yan in 2021 for the vacant UFC bantamweight title.
Nurmagomedov who is 5-0 in the UFC is currently ranked at #9 and has yet to lose as a professional. Umar’s last fight was a unanimous decision victory against Bekzat Almakhan back in March.
No other bouts have been announced for UFC Abu Dhabi as of this post. The event takes place on August 3 at Etihad Arena.
