Canada’s Mike Malott will be looking to get back in the win column this July.
Welterweight Malott (10-2-1) will face Gilbert Urbina (7-3) at a UFC Fight Night on July 13, 2024. News of the booking was first reported by SportsNet. Malott subsequently confirmed the report on social media.
No venue, location, or broadcast plan has been officially announced for the event, which comes just two weeks after UFC 303 closes out International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Malott will be looking to erase the memory of a late-third round TKO loss to Neil Magny at UFC 297 in Toronto, where the hometown fave (Malott hails from nearby Burlington, ON) had been winning until tiring and ultimately being finished with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
Prior to that, “Proper” Mike Malott had won his first three trips to the octagon after winning his way into the UFC as part of the Contender Series in 2021.
Urbina is a TUF 29 vet who landed in the finale as an injury replacement for Tresean Gore. He lost to Bryan Battle in that final but was brought into the promotion, where he’s 1-1 since.
While there’s no location for the UFC’s July 13 event, Malott will share the card with fellow Canadian Jasmine Jasudavicius.
