Chicago, IL — Argentina’s Laureano Staropoli carries a four-fight win streak with him, and will have both Glover Texeira and Alex Pereira on hand when he faces Murad Ramazanov at PFL 3 this Friday in Chicago.
Staropoli is likely best known to fight fans for his UFC run, which saw him pick up a win over former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves. But after a rough skid to end his run with the company, the 31-year old has rebounded nicely, and has a strong team by his side.
“I feel amazing. With this team that I have, my coach, Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira, and after his knockout last weekend, he just gave me this beautiful energy,” Staropoli (13-5) told Cageside Press in an exclusive interview this week. “With the whole team, this energy, [I’m] going to put on a great fight.”
Of course, Pereira is just days removed from a highlight reel finish of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. It’s an impressive show of team spirit to already be back in corner mode.
“That’s how humble Alex is. Three days ago, he was winning, defending his belt in the biggest fight,” Staropoli continued. “He’s the biggest athlete right now, one of the biggest names in the UFC. he’s for sure one of the best strikers in combat sports of all time.”
“That’s how we are over there. Family,” he added.
Asked about winning the million dollars in this year’s PFL season, “[I’m] not thinking about the result right now,” said Staropoli, “just thinking about doing the best that I can right now in this fight. That’s to put on a great show and to put on a great fight.”
Of course, added Staropoli, with Texeira translating, he thinks about the million dollars, but he “doesn’t let that get in the way of being focused, and do it right now, the things that I have to do.” Which, he finished, is to “put on a show and show the world how [I] am.”
