Atlantic City – UFC featherweight Julio Arce may have missed on the scale, but he didn’t in his fight against Herbert Burns where he took a TKO victory at UFC Atlantic City on Saturday night.
“I missed weight by a pound so my back was against the wall and I’m just like you know what go out, show out, leave it all in there,” Arce told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“I’m just so thankful for all the people in my corner. I’m on a high right now. It feels unbelievable. We were looking for this.”
Arce (19-6) was coming off an ACL injury that required surgery that took him out for a while. Now he’s back, with a big victory, and momentum for the future.
“As I was saying in the cage, going into this fight….it literally marks a year since I got ACL surgery so you know that’s in the back of your mind. Recovering, going through all that, doing a fight camp without getting injured,” he said.
At weigh-ins on Friday morning Arce not only missed weight the first time he hit the scale, but was heavier when he returned after cutting more.
“I got on the scale, it said 147, we had an hour. I came back and then when I came back they said I was heavier. I mean we were sweating,” he said.
“Regardless, no excuse. I missed weight and it’s unprofessional of me, and I’m going to correct that.”
