Atlantic City – Even coming off a spectacular finish at UFC Atlantic City on Saturday night Joaquin Buckley is already looking forward to bumping the headliner at UFC St. Louis and headlining in his hometown.
“I’ve been away from my family for months now, months. I just really feel like it’s time to like come back home and start my training camp in St. Louis,” Buckley told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“They will switch it up.”
The UFC announced this week that headlining UFC St. Louis will be a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Rodrigo Nascimento. Neither man is from the city, or even the state, and it’s something Buckley is hoping to change.
“If I fight in St. Louis they gonna have to switch it up and put me as the main event. Five rounds,” Buckley said.
Buckley (18-6) now owns a victory over one of the more violent and successful welterweights in the UFC in Vicente Luque.
“We all know he’s a talented fighter, but I feel like there’s a lot of times where he ends up in a situation and he tries to fight through. I felt like I could break Vicente Luque and that’s exactly what we did. It actually happened,” he said.
“I made him quit.”
