Jailton Almeida is looking to bounce back immediately from his loss just a little over two weeks ago. Almeida has agreed to fight Alexander Volkov on the main card of UFC 302 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on June 1, 2024.
Leo Guimaraes was the initial source to break the news of the bout on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The #7 ranked UFC heavyweight, Jailton Almeida (20-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) will compete a little under three months removed from his first UFC loss when he was finished by Curtis Blaydes via hammer fists in the second round of their March 9 bout on UFC 299. Before the bout, Almeida had taken the UFC’s heavyweight division by storm, fighting six times and racking up two main event bouts (vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Derrick Lewis) since making his UFC debut in February of 2022. The loss to “Razor” Blaydes snapped a 15-fight winning streak for the Brazilian heavyweight standout.
#6 ranked UFC heavyweight Alexander Volkov (37-10 MMA, 11-4 UFC) was last in action in September when he finished Tai Tuivasa via an ezekiel choke in the second round of their fight at UFC 293. Volkov is now riding a three-fight winning streak since losing to the current UFC interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, in March of 2022.
Jailton Almeida and Alexander Volkov will join five other announced fights for UFC 302, which still doesn’t have a designated main event:
- Roman Dolidze vs. Anthony Hernandez
- Joselyne Edwards vs. Ailin Perez
- Mickey Gall vs. Bassil Hafez
- Grant Dawson vs. Joe Solecki
- Michelle Waterson-Goemez vs. Gillian Robertson
