UFC APEX – Excited for her first main event spot is UFC flyweight Amanda Ribas who takes on former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas at UFC Vegas 89 on Saturday night.
“Since my first time that I signed the UFC poster I was imagining my face there,” Ribas told reporters on Wednesday.
“Yesterday I signed my face and since the first day at camp I was, ‘Ok. The time is now, you’re doing the main event’ so let’s go.”
Every fighter has spoken about seeing their face on the poster as the main event.
“I put so much pressure on me (in) training. Fight week for me is we are here. All the job are done so now you need to enjoy and focus what you trained for,” she said.
Ribas (12-4) will face former strawweight champ Namajunas at 125 pounds. The opportunity to face someone like ‘Thug Rose’ was too much to pass up.
“I always put in my mind that I will face the best Rose Namajunas ever. I’m training for the best of her,” Ribas said.
Getting word that she was fighting someone as iconic as Namajunas was exciting for Ribas.
“I was like ‘oh my goodness! Look against who (I will) fight!’ And then I put in my mind, at the moment that I signed the contract, that feeling stopped. My dad said to me one time, ‘if you want to be a legend you need to beat 1’,” said Ribas.
“Now it’s my time.”
