Former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith will face Brazil’s own Vitor Petrino in hostile territory this May.

The 205lb showdown will take place at UFC 301 on May 4, 2024, at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Laerte Viana was first to report the booking.

Petrino (11-0) was just seen in action at UFC Vegas 87 earlier this month, where the undefeated light heavyweight won a unanimous decision opposite the retiring Tyson Pedro. A 2022 Contender Series winner, Petrino has won his first four fights under the UFC banner, but is getting a sizeable step up in competition against “Lionheart.”

Smith (37-19) sports a 12-9 record in the UFC after getting his start in the middleweight division. He moved up in weight in 2018 and put together three straight wins to earn a shot at then-champ Jon Jones, only to come up short in their title fight.

Now 35, Anthony Smith was last seen being knocked out at the hands of Khalil Rountree Jr.

No main event has been announced for the UFC 301 Pay-Per-View card, but multiple match-ups have been reported. Thus far, those are:

  • Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Iasmin Lucindo
  • Paul Craig vs. Caio Borralho
  • Joaquim Silva vs. Drakkar Klose
  • Alessandro Costa vs. Kevin Borjas
  • Jack Shore vs. Joanderson Brito
