Former KSW star Mateusz Gamrot was getting arguably the highest-profile match-up of his UFC run at UFC 299 in Miami, where he was paired up with ex-lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos.
The 39-year old Brazilian ex-champ was returning to 155lbs after taking his last couple of fights at welterweight, and was coming off a loss against Vicente Luque. Gamrot, meanwhile, was 6-2 under the UFC banner and had won back-to-back fights.
Round 1 began and Gamrot tried a takedown, but RDA landed a nasty knee that rocked him bad. RDA did RDA things looking for the finish over the tough Gamrot, but was taken down shortly after. The rest of the round went Gamrot’s way after scoring a second takedown and working to smother the Brazilian.
Round 2 RDA went after Gamrot seeing the success he had early in the first, but the latter was able to get back to his takedown attacks and repeatedly got him down. RDA would work to get back to his feet, and Gamrot would quickly get him right back down to the canvas.
Round 3 was takedown after takedown for Mateusz Gamrot. It wasn’t even like he was scoring much damage on those, but it definitely stopped RDA from landing something devastating on him. The rest of the fight was more of the same and Gamrot cruised to a unanimous decision.
Official Result: Mateusz Gamrot def. Rafael dos Anjos via Unanimous Decision (29-28,29-28, 30-27)
