Miami, FL – Making his way back to lightweight is UFC’s Rafael dos Anjos and it has to do with his opponent at UFC 299 where he faces Mateusz Gamrot on Saturday night.
“Gamrot he was at one point backup fighter for a title. That’s a good fight that could put me right back (in) that mix. There are other names that could make me make that drop again,” dos Anjos told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“I know my finish line is closer than my starting line, but I’m still feeling in great spirits, great shape, and ready to make that drop again to 155.”
Cuts to lightweight have always been hard, but have gotten much tougher for dos Anjos as he’s aged in the sport.
“155’s not that easy to me, but I’m still committed to it and still want it,” he said.
Dos Anjo’s opponent at UFC 299 is an accomplished grappler who is a multiple time ADCC European champion, but the Brazilian has been working his ground game with one of the best teams in the US.
“He’s a good grappler, and great wrestling skills too. I’ve been training at B Team (in) Austin, Texas. With the best grapplers in the world and it’s been helping a lot. It was good for me to dig back on my roots,” he said.
“Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is my background. It was a good challenge for me.”
