The UFC finally made its way back south of the border on Saturday, with UFC Mexico City headlined by a flyweight rematch between ex-champ Brandon Moreno and recent challenger Brandon Royval.
The promise of another title shot no doubt sweetened the pot for both men, who were each coming off a loss to current champ Alexandre Pantoja. As well, the fight represented the opportunity for revenge on Moreno, who finished him via TKO in the pair’s first meeting back in November of 2020.
Rematches were the theme of the night it seemed, as the UFC Mexico City co-main event saw Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez also meeting for the second time. Originally facing off in 2022, a shoulder injury had ended Ortega’s night early. “T-City” had not fought since, while Rodriguez had lost a title fight against Alexander Volkanovski.
Also on the UFC Mexico City card, teen phenom Raul Rosas Jr., who was getting a decent step up in competition against The Ultimate Fighter 29 bantamweight winner Ricky Turcios.
