Mexico City – Following a 19-month layoff UFC featherweight Brian Ortega will get a rematch against Yair Rodriguez at UFC Mexico City on Saturday night.
“My perspective on it it’s just a continuation of that fight. It’s either a rematch or a continuation, for me it’s a continuation,” Ortega told reporters on Wednesday.
“We just started getting warmed up. We were very dry, got ahold of each other, hit each other a little bit. Felt each other’s strength. It’s going to be a good fight man.”
The first fight too off quickly with both men throwing heavy shots at each other prior to the shoulder injury that took Ortega out of the fight. While another banger of a fight is possible Ortega isn’t willing to guarantee that it’ll turn out that way.
“It depends on what adjustments are being made. When you get in there you feel the differences and the chess pieces that one does in training. Based off that we’re going to feel him out, see what happens, and then adjust,” he said.
Rodriguez isn’t the only one with his eyes on Ortega. Movsar Evloev, the #5 ranked featherweight, has taken to social media to talk about Ortega. Evloev made a joke about how in the year 2040 Ortega hasn’t won in over a decade, but in the rankings he’s still a top 5 featherweight in the world.
“It’s a funny one. It’s funny. That’s it. I’m here, I’m fighting, I’m back,” Ortega said.
“Like I said, we’ll see.”
