Anaheim, CA – After a tumultuous lead up to his fight at UFC 298 welterweight Ian Machado Garry called his shot for a fight with Colby Covington following his win over Geoff Neal.
“Give me two or three weeks off. I’m going to go rest, recover, go have some sun, and then we’ll try to book that Colby (Covington) date next,” Garry told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum on Saturday night.
“That’s what I want next. Let’s make it happen.”
Calling out Covington isn’t new for Garry as he’s done it many times before. This time it may actually be heard.
“That’s (Neal) my third top-15 guy. I’m going to go out there and I’m going to beat Colby Covington like we’ve never seen before. Then I want a top 3 opponent. Someone who’s in that title contention,” Garry said.
“The truth is Colby’s biggest claim to fame is he’s fought for three world titles, and he’s lost all three. He’s not as good as people think he is. You get beaten by a young, talented, up-and-coming prospect one of the best we’ve ever seen…you don’t come back from that.”
Even with three title losses in his career Covington is regarded as one of the best welterweights in the world. ‘Chaos’ is known for putting on a high pace on opponents and using his wrestling to win fights.
“I’ll match him pace for pace on cardio. I’ll match him for output. He doesn’t posses anywhere near the power Geoff Neal does. He has great wrestling, cool, put me on my back. I’m training with Demian Maia see what happens if you put me on my back. I’ll choke him unconscious,” said Garry.
“I promise you I will end that fight, I’ll finish that fight, and I’ll rid the UFC of Colby Covington once and for all. He needs to be gone. I’m sick of his nonsense. He’s a piece of sh*t.”
