The UFC was giving Contender Series alum Joe Pyfer the star treatment on Saturday, booking the unranked middleweight against Sweden’s Jack “The Joker” Hermansson in a UFC Vegas 86 main event that felt like a changing of the guard.
With Hermansson lacking back-to-back wins since 2019 and coming off a loss to Roman Doldize, it was Pyfer, who Dana White made famous with his “be Joe Pyfer” line, with everything to gain. A spot in the rankings, and the main event scene at the very least was in the offing for “Bodybagz” if he could get past Hermansson on Saturday.
As for Jack Hermansson, having slipped out of the top 10 at 185lbs, the #11-ranked middleweight was looking to work his way back up, and avoid a second straight loss.
The co-main event at UFC Vegas 86 featured featherweight action, with Dan Ige and Andre Fili promising to be an exciting scrap. Elsewhere on the card, Hawaii’s Brad Tavares took on Gregory “Robocop” Rodrigues, and longtime vet Michael Johnson faced off with Darrius Flowers.
